This room divider falls into the category of Architectural Salvage. Originally it was built in, attached to the floor and ceiling and to a wall at one end. It would have acted as room divider screening off part of a room breaking up the space. It was rescued from a 1940s era dwelling on Sydney’s North Shore. The Architectural style of the building could loosely be described as late Art Deco. Art Deco came late to Australia and in many cases merged with the modernist style that was starting to take hold. The piece is a great example of this crossover. The floating cupboard is fashioned using split maple veneer. The vertical uprights are Australian Hardwood. I have made no changes to the original design apart from restoring and refinishing it in an oil based finish and adding a front leg to support it when free standing. It can easily be lowered in height or left as is - build in as originally or used as a free standing unit. This is a dream piece for stylist or architect looking for some authenticity and a fabulous feature piece to incorporate in their scheme. Available now and currently featuring in our showroom window if you want to do a Covid safe drive by viewing!
